Abstract
Background: Combination neuromodulator and hyaluronic acid filler treatment is standard in modern aesthetic practice, but patient-reported outcome data using validated instruments remain sparse.
Objective: To quantify psychosocial and appearance-related outcomes following a structured 12-month combination injectable protocol using the validated FACE-Q instrument.
Methods: Prospective observational study of 612 adult patients (mean age 44.8 years; 91% female) receiving individualized neuromodulator and HA filler treatment at three academic centers between 2022 and 2024. FACE-Q Satisfaction with Facial Appearance, Psychological Well-Being, Social Confidence, and Appraisal of Lines scales were administered at baseline, 3, 6, and 12 months. Regression models adjusted for age, baseline severity, and treatment intensity.
Results: All FACE-Q domains improved significantly from baseline (p<0.001). Satisfaction with Facial Appearance rose from a mean of 47.2 to 78.6 at 12 months. Psychological Well-Being and Social Confidence improved by 22.4 and 19.8 points respectively. Benefit was greatest among patients with higher baseline dissatisfaction and was not moderated by age. Adverse events were mild and self-limited in 96.4% of patients.
Conclusions: Structured combination injectable treatment produces sustained, clinically meaningful improvements in patient-reported appearance, psychological well-being, and social confidence, with the largest gains in patients presenting with the greatest baseline concern.
